The Intersect
The Intersect examines the reciprocal influences of technology and the arts.

A weekly, curated look at where art and technology keep colliding — written by someone who uses these tools daily and still argues with half of them. Whether you think AI is hollowing out creativity, or quietly contributing to it, this is an honest version of that conversation.

Why bother with another newsletter

  • Curated, not aggregated. Five to eight stories a week, hand-picked and argued with — not scraped, ranked, and flung at you. The ones actually worth your attention, and why.
  • The tension, not the takeaway. Most issues end on a question rather than a verdict. If you want tidy conclusions about AI and art, there are louder newsletters. This isn't one.
  • Skeptical, not cynical. The hype gets questioned; so does the panic. I use these tools daily and still find them unsettling — that ambivalence is rather the point.

What lands in your inbox

Once a week. Never more. One email of five to eight stories — AI and creativity, photography and visual art in the algorithmic age, design versus sameness, art-and-science crossovers, and the money and politics quietly shaping all of it — each with a few lines of commentary, usually a question I haven't fully answered. There's a companion podcast too, for when reading feels like a stretch.

It's a small list, but a stubbornly loyal one: close to half of subscribers open every single issue — comfortably above the industry norm — and they click, reply, and argue back. Make of that what you will.

Who it's for

For artists who suspect AI is a threat, technologists who suspect it's a gift, and the growing number of people who suspect it's quietly both at once. If you care more about intention than output — about why a thing was made, not just how fast — you'll feel at home.

The obvious questions

Is it free?

Yes.

How often will you email me?

Once a week — I said that already, but it bears repeating in an age of "daily" everything.

Will you spam me or sell my address?

No. One email a week, from me. Unsubscribe in a single click whenever you like — no guilt-trip, no "are you sure?" theatre.

Is there really a podcast?

There is — a companion one, for when your eyes need a rest.

A few recent issues

Don't take my word for it. Here's what the last few weeks looked like — skim one, then add your email up top if we seem to get along.
